The 1984 international congress of Benedictine abbots
noted that to be an oblate is a vocation,
a response to a call;
that congress saw the relationship
between a monastic community and
its oblates as one of reciprocal blessing.
It is a worthy outreach as well
that oblates carry monastic values
into the world by applying the teachings
of the Rule in their daily lives.
